Title: Cream
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Harry/Draco, as usual
Disclaimer: It all belongs to JK Rowling.
Author's Notes: This is my attempt at a Christmas drabble - three times the size and angsty as hell. I wrote most of it at work - I used the first three things people bought as inspiration - a Su Doku magazine, some fudge and some cream. Where anyone else would have written smut, I produced this. Merry Christmas!!
Harry set his bags down on the Christmas table and began to sort through his shopping. Su Doku book for Hermione, box of fudge for Ron, pot of cream for...why had he bought cream?
He knew why, of course. He'd bought it for the same reason that he bought two Honeydukes' chocolate wands whenever he went to Hogsmeade and the same reason he still occasionally awoke in surprise when his sleeping self quested for a warmth on the other side of the bed that was no longer there. Ten months was not enough time to get used to the absence of Draco. Hermione had said he should move on and spoke at length about closure and the grief process. Harry had nodded, avoided her eyes and made one too many cups of coffee.
He knew Draco was dead. He did. Every morning he woke up and reminded himself and then he reminded himself at breakfast and when he came home from work and before he went to sleep and a hundred other times throughout the day, but whenever his mind wandered, which was worryingly often these days, he found himself falling in to old patterns of behaviour. It seemed his subconscious was unable to accept that he'd never see Draco's teasing glances as he devoured a chocolate wand in the most suggestive manner possible, or wrap his body around Draco's warmth during the night or lick puddles of cream off his smooth, pale stomach whist he shivered and complained that it tickled.
Harry walked over to the bin with the cream, opened the lid and held the pot for a moment, ready to fall. Then he closed the bin and put the cream carefully in the fridge. He wasn't ready to get rid of it yet.
